Trumpet

The Conservatoire offers Bachelors and Masters courses in jazz trumpet, within the jazz department.

The Bachelors course focuses on discovering standard jazz repertoire, from its origins until the present day. The programme offers students a solid and versatile technical base on their instrument, in order to interpret pieces and improvise, integrating different harmonic, melodic and rhythmic elements, and placing them in their stylistic and historical context. The course offers students comprehensive training in artistic, practical and theoretical skills alongside general and cultural skills.

Through taking individual lessons as well as classes in smaller and larger groups, students encounter a range of musical situations which allow them to play all styles of current and historical jazz, in as many different configurations as possible, and with the aim to prepare them for their future career. The class-ensemble jazz ensembles, and various master classes are key to helping students discover this music in different contexts.

Building on this solid foundation gained during the Bachelors course, students in the Masters programme are then able to acquire the necessary skills to develop their own personal artistic project (classes in arranging, thematic ensembles, masterclasses, concerts outside the Conservatoire…), with a view to making a smooth and successful transition to professional life.
