ATLAS-BSA

The Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles (CrB), ENSAV La Cambre and INSAS have established ATLAS – Brussels School of Arts, an alliance designed to foster closer ties between the arts and sciences, in particular by promoting interdisciplinarity and strengthening research.

The Alliance for the Transmission and Links between Arts and Sciences (ATLAS) promotes consultation, coordination and the development of projects between disciplines that are still too often compartmentalised. It formalises, provides a framework for and promotes the already significant multilateral agreements that have long existed between the partners. It provides a space for strategic and operational dialogue organised around four main areas: research (joint supervision of theses in the arts and art sciences within the Doctoral School), teaching (jointly organised courses, sharing of teaching modules), as well as international engagement and student support.

In practical terms, the alliance’s main objectives include:

  • Establishing and coordinating a network of researchers and lecturers to develop and promote research in the arts within a forum for exchange and visibility;
  • The creation of a seed fund for joint projects;
  • The development of ambitious interdisciplinary projects, particularly at European level;
  • Support for the Doctoral School in Arts and Art Sciences; organisation, supervision and promotion of doctoral theses in art and art sciences;
  • The development of new interdisciplinary courses (Masters, certificates, workshops, studios, etc.);
  • The development of joint artistic and scientific projects with international partners;
  • The pooling of resources and mechanisms to carry out coordinated actions to combat discrimination, violence and harassment;
  • Facilitating the sharing of organisational and structural services with the community.

Subtitled the Brussels School of Arts, the alliance aims to strengthen the international reach of the four Brussels-based institutions.
