Pierre-Noël Latour

Biography

Psychologist and musician, Pierre-Noël Latour studied trumpet and cornet in Jean-Claude Deside's class at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Mons. He also obtained a teaching qualification for these instruments. Alongside his musical studies, he undertook a university course in psychological sciences at the University of Mons, specialising in the field of disability. He then went on to complete postgraduate training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy for adults at IFISAM, the Institute for Training in Mental Health Intervention.

Coming from the brass band and harmony movement, with a particular affinity for contemporary composers and the Synthétistes style, Pierre-Noël Latour conducted the Yves-Gomezée brass band in 2002 during a concert dedicated to Paul Gilson. Today, he continues this exploration with the brass quartet À râse dè têre, founded by musicologist Géry Dumoulin, who is also curator at the MIM. The repertoire consists of the arguèdènes of yesteryear, those little popular tunes that brass bands and harmonies know particularly well. Through this project, he is committed to keeping alive and passing on a musical tradition rooted in local culture.

Pierre-Noël Latour devoted ten years to music teaching. At the same time, he worked as a music teacher in special education, where he developed teaching methods tailored to the specific needs of his students. This experience enabled him to develop a teaching approach based on listening, adaptation and valuing individual learning paths. For several years, he has been a lecturer in educational psychology at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles.

A psychologist by training, Pierre-Noël Latour is currently in charge of care pathways at the Institut Louis Marie in Thy-le-Château, a residential service for young people that takes in adolescents with behavioural disorders. In this context, he has developed a rigorous methodology for monitoring and coordination, combining clinical, educational and institutional dimensions. Alongside his work in residential care, he practises as a psychologist and therapist in private practice.
