Hungarian-born violinist and violist Gergely Kóta has built a career as a versatile chamber musician and educator across Europe. Since 2022, he has been teaching chamber music at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles.
Kóta studied violin in his native country until age eighteen, when he moved to Brussels to continue his studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel under Katalin Sebestyén, graduating in 2005. His deep commitment to chamber music led him to join the Quatuor Coryfeye, which flourished for a decade and earned a place at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where the ensemble studied with the renowned Artemis quartet. He further refined his craft at ProQuartet - Centre Européen de Musique de Chambre in France, working with members of the legendary Alban Berg quartet.
In 2017, Kóta founded the BECEL Trio alongside flute and harp, bringing together an uncommon and captivating instrumental combination. The ensemble's artistic excellence was recognized in 2023 with the Octaves de la Musique award from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Kóta maintains an active performance career as a member of Ensemble Mendelssohn and as principal violist of the Ataneres string orchestra in Belgium. His performances have graced major venues and festivals throughout Belgium, with regular appearances in France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. He has released several critically acclaimed CD recordings with his various ensembles.
