Tomma Wessel

Biography

Tomma Wessel (Germany) studied at the Conservatoires of Brussels and Ghent. She has performed at several major festivals in Belgium and abroad. She has premiered works by composers such as Luc Brewaeys, Alvin Curran, Moritz Eggert, Helmut Oehring, Frederic Rzewski, Matthew Shlomowitz, Volker Staub, Serge Verstockt, and Christian Wolff.

Tomma Wessel is a member and co-founder of the recorder ensemble Apsara, founded in 2000. Apsara considers itself a “new broken consort” and has premiered numerous new works. She also performs with orchestras and ensembles such as Ex Tempore, Ictus, Le Concert d’Apollon, Musica Antiqua Köln, Champ d’Action, Prometheus-Ensemble, Spectra, Het Vlaams Symfonieorkest, and collaborates on many studio and radio recordings. She is also a member of the ensemble Letter Piece Company.

She teaches contemporary music for recorder at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles and is a professor of recorder and chamber music at the Conservatoire of Bruges.
