Michel Paré

Biography

After studying classical trumpet at the Conservatoires de Liège and de Mons, he obtained a First Prize in jazz trumpet and jazz harmony at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles with a stay at the Manhattan School of Music in New York and earned a Master of Arts in jazz trumpet at the Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel.

Composer, arranger, and jazz trumpeter, he worked for over 10 years with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, conducted the Jazz Station Big Band for more than 10 years, led his own quartet MP4, and pursued a freelance career that allowed him to collaborate in Europe and the United States with some of the greatest names in music such as Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine, Kenny Wheeler, Maria Schneider, Bill Holman, Kenny Werner, Bob Mintzer, Tom Harrell, Dave Liebman, William Sheller, Calvin Owens, Jo Lemaire, the Benny Goodman Sound Orchestra and in Belgium with the top Belgian jazz musicians such as Bruno Castellucci, Stéphane Galland, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, Fabrice Alleman, Phil Abraham, Benoît Vanderstraeten, Michel Herr, Charles Loos, Richard Rousselet, Bert Joris, Frank Vaganée.

Professor of jazz trumpet at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles since 2005, Michel Paré creates every year projects that highlight students from the trumpet, brass, and jazz ensemble classes on themes drawn from the history of jazz and related music such as Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis, Kenny Dorham, Clifford Brown, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Wheeler, Dizzy Gillespie, Donald Byrd, Lester Bowie, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Frank Zappa, West Coast Jazz, Share The Music jazz and classical.

As a jazz musician and educator, he has participated in the recording of around twenty albums as both leader and sideman.
