Kaori Uemura

Biography

Born in Japan, she started to play the violin at the age of 3 years and began the viola da Gamba at age of 12, with the pioneer of this instrument in Japan, Toshinari Ohashi. After graduating Ueno Gakuen Music University in Tokyo, she moved to Brussels and studied with Wieland Kuijken at the Royal Concervatorium of Brussels, and became one of the best colleague of him.
After getting the High diploma with distinction, she settled in Belgium and became one of the most demanded gambists in Europe and Japan, playing concerts and recording regularly in chamber music with among others Les Talens Lyriques, Les Arts Florissants, Gli Angeli Genève, The Netherlands Bach Society, Le poème Harmonique, La Petite Bande and Ricercar Consort.  She is also regularly invited as a soloist by the Orchestra of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra.
She worked with Michèle Massina to accomplich how to perform. 
Her recording of Forqueray with Michèle Dévérité had a "Diapason d’Or" in France.
