Jean-Baptiste Delcourt

Biography

Jean-Baptiste Delcourt was born in 1985. He is a director and co-artistic director of the company F.A.C.T. He first studied at the Conservatoire de Clermont-Ferrand, where he obtained his Certificat d’Études Théâtrales with the jury's congratulations after directing Woyzeck at the Théâtre National de Clermont-Ferrand. Upon finishing his studies, he felt a strong calling for directing. He decided to deepen his knowledge of theatrical techniques and moved to Brussels to join the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, then the INSAS, where he obtained a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Dramatic Interpretation with distinction. His productions of Heiner Müller’s works Médée Matériaux and Hamlet Machine during the Printemps Précoce festival, part of the INSAS curriculum, confirmed his interest in directing actors and pursuing stage direction. After completing his studies, he co-founded F.A.C.T., a company with a horizontal structure that implements the theory of sharing knowledge and skills. At the same time, he worked as an actor before becoming an assistant to directors such as Myriam Saduis and Aurore Fattier. In 2017, he directed his first production, Par les Villages by Peter Handke, at Théâtre Océan Nord, followed by the Nouvelle Scène Nationale de Cergy-Pontoise. In 2018-2019, he continued his collaboration with Myriam Saduis on the production Final Cut as artistic advisor alongside Magali Pinglaut and Isabelle Pousseur, which received the Maeterlinck Critic’s Awards for Best Production and Best Actress.

He has accepted invitations as a director for a variety of projects, including working in prisons for the production Naked at the Nouvelle Scène Nationale de Cergy-Pontoise, and directing Traces d’étoiles by Cindy Lou Johnson at the Théâtre du Peuple de Bussang. He directed the Alfama quartet in the production Fanny & Félix, performed at Les Festivals de Wallonie, DeSingel, Opéra de Bordeaux, Opéra du Luxembourg, and Palais des Beaux-Arts de Charleroi. For the company La Servante, he directed Girls & Boys by Denis Kelly, performed in February 2022 at Théâtre des Martyrs and toured in 2023 and 2024, earning two nominations at the 2022 Maeterlinck Critic’s Awards for Best Solo Performance and Best Actress. His latest production, Coriolan (Hubris), based on William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Coriolanus, is preparing for a revival at Théâtre des Martyrs in March 2023. Since 2018, he has taught dramatic arts at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles and at the Cours Florent. He is an Artist Partner of Théâtre des Martyrs until 2025 alongside Jeanne Dandoy and Pauline d’Ollone. He is currently working on Elizabeth Costello by J.M. Coetzee in collaboration with the dramaturge and philosopher Valérie Battaglia.
