Benoît Jacquemin

Biography

Benoît Jacquemin was born near Liège in 1975.

An organist, harpsichordist, composer, and conductor, he holds numerous prizes and diplomas from the Conservatoires royaux de Musique de Bruxelles and Mons in organ, music history, composition, chamber music, and analysis, among others. He completed his training with J. Boyer, F. Friedrich, M. Bouvard, P. van Dijk, and J. D. Christie. He performs on the organ and harpsichord as a soloist and within a wide range of ensembles, from duo to orchestral and choral formations, with extensive experience in the field of basso continuo.

As a composer, his catalogue includes numerous works for organ and piano, chamber music including two string quartets Hommage à Purcell and Quatre Bagatelles, works for voice and piano including Deaths and Entrances, a cycle of six songs on texts by Dylan Thomas, a cantata on texts by the Sufi poet Rûmi titled Le Jour du Phénix, as well as various arrangements and transcriptions.

After teaching organ, music history, composition, and analysis in several academies, Benoît now teaches practical harmony at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles. He has also worked for many years as a lecturer for Bozar Music and for the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie.
