Tomoko Honda

Biography

Tomoko Honda studied at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, and at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. In 2001, she won First Prize at the Minerbio International Competition in Bologna, and at the Wiener Chamber Music Competition in Budapest, as well as Second Prize at the European Competition in Turin in 1998, First Prize at the Carlo Soliva International Competition in 2000, and Third Prize at the C. Togni International Piano Competition and at the Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in 2006.

Known for her choice of colors and her innovative explorations in contemporary music, she has appeared as a soloist in prestigious concert halls and festivals such as Ars Musica, Klara Festival, and Festival Balsa Marni in Belgium, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, the Trondheim Chamber Music Festival, the Impulse Festival in Graz, the International Contemporary Music Festival in Budapest, and the Menton Festival. She has collaborated with composers including G. Kurtág, G. Ligeti, P. Eötvös, P. Dusapin, T. Hosokawa, and G. Crumb, creating, performing, and recording numerous new works.

A passionate chamber musician, she works in a variety of partnerships with both small and large ensembles. Tomoko has performed at venues such as the Opéra de Lille, the Van Gogh Museum, the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Flagey, and Wigmore Hall, and has toured extensively across Europe, Asia, South America, and Japan. She has also participated in multiple radio and TV recordings, including Radio 3 (UK), Radio Bartók and Hungarian National TV (Hungary), and Musique 3 and Klara (Belgium).

Since 2012, she has been working at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles as a collaborative pianist and regularly collaborates as an official accompanist at international competitions, including the Adolf Sax International Competition and the Jean-Marie Londeix International Competition.
