Vincent Hepp

Biography

Vincent Hepp studied under Véronique Bogaerts and Thérèse-Marie Gilissen at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles and the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth. Early on attracted to chamber music, he became the violist of the Kryptos Quartet, with which he received guidance from, among others, the Artemis and Alban Berg quartets, and with which he won second prize at the Chostakovich Quartet Competition in Moscow. This was followed by an intense career as a chamber musician in most of Belgium's major ensembles, including Oxalys, Het Collectief, Ensemble Mendelssohn, Ensemble Franck, and Tetra Lyre. Building on these diverse experiences, he became a founding member of the Taurus Quartet. His particular interest in contemporary music led him to participate in the International Ensemble Modern Academy, after which he was regularly invited to perform with Ensemble Modern, Nadar, Spectra, and many other specialized ensembles. He has held successive positions as principal viola at the OPRL, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, and the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie, as well as in numerous chamber orchestras, including the Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Brussels Virtuosi, Orchestre de Chambre de Liège, Casco Phil, and Ensemble Piacevole. Occasionally, he also performs on the viola d’amore and the banjo.
