After classical training at an academy and at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège as a non regular student alongside studies to become a primary school teacher, and after winning a First Prize at the National Music Competition, Bernard Guyot enrolled in the jazz department of the Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel. There, he studied with Jeroen Van Herzeele and later with John Ruocco. He also received valuable guidance from Kris Defoort, Diederik Wissels, Arnould Massart, and others. After completing his conservatory studies, he divided his time between teaching and his activity as a performing musician. In 2008, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of Le Travers, he created the group Summer Residence with Charles Loos. Their live album Live 2008 was released in May 2009. The group currently devotes its repertoire to a reinterpretation of Belgian composers from the Middle Ages to the present day, approached through specifically jazz arrangements. This work resulted in the album Clazzics, released in May 2014 on the Cypres Records label. In September 2010, he released the album Archibald’s Song in duo with pianist Sabin Todorov. He has multiplied artistic experiences including encounters between contemporary dance and improvisation with De Nachtbrakers, a young Dutch collective, works for saxophone and strings, and participation in the project Sax for the Queen by Steve Houben during the Festival de Wallonie 2010.He is currently dedicated to a new project called Riot following his meeting with Italian double bassist Stefano Risso. He teaches at the music academies of Evere, Auderghem, Wavre, Nivelles, and Berchem Sainte Agathe.
