Victor Da Costa

Biography

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1971, Victor started learning the guitar at the age of 11 years. After studying music at the 'Musiarte' Rio de Janeiro, he moves to Europe to improve his skills. In 1993 Victor entered the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where he obtained a first prize for guitar in 1995 and harmony in 1999.
It was not until 2000 that he returned to his native Brazil to spend 2 years. Meanwhile, Victor plays there with many Brazilian musicians such as Idriss Boudrioua Dario Galante, Osmar Milito, Adriano Giffoni, Luizão etc.
Back in Belgium since January 2002, Victor performs with his trio and different other groups in renowned venues and festivals, such as the “Botanique”, in the “Lundis d’Hortense" festival and the "Blue Note" in Ghent. Among the groups and musicians with whom he has played, we highlight: Victor da Costa Trio, Philip Catherine guitar orchestra, Márcia Maria, Marito Correa, Steve Houben, Jan de Haas, Philippe Aerts, Weber Iago etc. Also active as a composer, his works have been performed in Belgium, Brazil and Spain.
His first cd with Victor da Costa trio "Cores of Lá" was released in May 2004 at “Mognomusic” label, and includes works by Victor da Costa, Chico Buarque, Lyra-Bôscoli, I. Lins, Gonzaga-Texeira.
In 2011, he participated with his group "Caçamba" in the Jazz Tour of “Lundis d’Hortenses”. The tour preceded the release of the CD "Dito Cujo" by the German label Acoustic Music Records.
Victor currently teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and at the Hoofdstedelijke Academie voor Muziek.
