Michèle Massina practiced piano, clarinet, and sports before falling in love with singing, which she studied with Paule Daloze and then Greta De Reyghere. She later refined her art with the baritone Udo Reinemann, who had a profound influence on her artistic development as a singer. Naturally curious, Michèle Massina has explored her mezzo soprano voice in a wide variety of performance contexts, including song recitals with piano or orchestra, oratorio, opera, operetta, theatre productions, and dance performances. Her favourite composers in the lied and mélodie repertoire include Schubert, Schumann, Haydn, Brahms, Strauss, Mahler, Falla, Mozart, Liszt, and Duparc. Her orchestral repertoire ranges from the Stabat Mater by Haydn and Vivaldi, Orphée by Gluck, Cherubino, Ch’io mi scordi di te, and the Requiem by Mozart, Rosina by Rossini, Carmen by Bizet, Shéhérazade and the Trois chansons de Mallarmé by Ravel, to the Folk Songs by Berio. Michèle Massina had the opportunity to begin her pedagogical training with Jacques Fourgon. She subsequently developed her own teaching approach to vocal work through the body.
Supported by Ludovic de San, she presented this personal vision and obtained the Diplôme d’aptitude à l’enseignement du chant at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles. Her career as a singing teacher began in 2002 as assistant to Ludovic de San at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles. Convinced that, beyond the artistic and technical qualities required for a stage career, singing also demands physical and mental skills that were often treated instinctively in late twentieth century music education, Michèle Massina undertook in depth exploration of these two dimensions in order to integrate them into her teaching.
The body
She studied the MLC Méthode de Libération des cuirasses with Marie Lise Labonté, as well as various massage techniques including lymphatic drainage and lympho energy work. She also trained in aura reading and Essene healing with Anne Givaudan and Dr Antoine Aschram.
The mind
From 2008 to 2013, Michèle Massina was a member of the Belgian National Elite Archery Team. Working with mental coach Manuel Dupuis, she developed her athletic potential and won several international medals. From 2011 onwards, she herself became a mental coach for athletes and artists.
These aspects are fully integrated into her pedagogy as chargée d’enseignement in singing. In addition to technical and artistic vocal instruction, Michèle Massina offers seminars in body awareness and mental training to conservatory students. These same elements, enriched with communication tools, also form the basis of her work with students in general pedagogy courses.
