Bernard Gahide

Biography

First Prize in Dramatic Arts (1999), First Prize (1998) and Superior Prize in Declamation (2000) at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles, as well as the IRIS Theatre Prize from the City of Brussels (1999), Bernard Gahide has been actively involved in Théâtre en Liberté productions at the Théâtre des Martyrs since 1998, both as an actor and director. He has performed in more than 90 shows to date (February 2017) in most theatres in Belgium, training himself in the working methods of leading Belgian directors (Marcel Delval, Daniel Scahaise, George Lini, Bernard Damien, Fréderic Dussenne, Hélène Theunissen, Christine Delmotte, Alexis Goslain, Jacques Neefs, Claude Volter, Philippe Vincent, Lorent Wanson, etc.).
In addition to numerous appearances in poetry recitals and voice recordings for film and advertising, Bernard Gahide is also active in children's theatre and puppetry (with the Racagnac company in ‘Le Prince Heureux’ and Théâtre du Ratinet since 2011). He has been teaching elocution at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles since 2010, where he tries to develop in his students (in addition to technical basics and self-confidence) control of the narrative thread, address to the audience and mastery of the latter's attention. Bernard Gahide has had the opportunity to teach all levels at the Conservatoire and thus to adapt his teaching to the specific needs of each student. For him, declamation is essential to learning the craft of acting because it goes to the very roots of theatre: being able to tell a story alone and without artifice in front of an audience and captivate them, mastering the art of timing and speech.
