Lionel Bams

Biography

Lionel Bams obtained his piano diplomas at the Conservatoires de Liège and Bruxelles, in the classes of Jean Schils and Marie‑Paule Cornia and then Aleksandar Madzar. Alongside the study of counterpoint, fugue, and chamber music, he very quickly specialized in accompanying singers. Passionate about the voice, he took several cycles of masterclasses at the invitation of Udo Reinemann in Amsterdam, Brussels, and at the Franz Schubert Institut in Vienna. He then obtained his diploma as a concert accompanist with the highest distinction in the class of Irwin Gage in Germany. In concert, he has performed, among others, at the Opéra de Lille, the Palais des Beaux‑Arts in Brussels, the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, at Flagey, and in Japan, with partners of the highest caliber. On disc, Lionel has recorded the complete mélodies and several chamber music pieces by the Belgian composer Albert Huybrechts for the Cypres label.
