Belgian, born on September 13, 1968, in Charleroi, Daniel Demoustiez studied in Mons, where he obtained a Premier Prix in clarinet in 1989 before turning to the bassoon (German system, or Fagott), for which he earned a Premier Prix in 1990. He continued his studies at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Mons with M. Wuillot and M. De Rijckere, obtaining the Diplômes Supérieurs in Chamber Music in 1993 and in Bassoon in 1994, both with Grande Distinction. Alongside his studies, he frequently performed as a substitute in various Belgian and international orchestras since 1989, including RTBF, Orchestre National de Belgique, Orchestre de Chambre de Wallonie, Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, I Fiamminghi, Beethoven Academy, and Orchestre de Chambre de Moscou. In 1990, he participated in the Franco-Belgian tour Ailleurs with the singer William Sheller.
He has also been active in several chamber music ensembles such as Oxalys, Triebensee (chamber wind orchestra), Duo Furtiva (with harp), and is now a regular member of Ensemble Quartz, with which he has recorded several chamber music CDs. Since 1993, he has been a soloist with the Vlaamse Opera orchestra in Ghent and Antwerp, where he has served as principal contrabassoon since 2008. In 1994, he became assistant to M. De Rijckere in his Chamber Music class, first at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Mons, then in Brussels in 1996.
He also served as interim professor of bassoon (Fagott) at the Conservatoire Royal de Mons from November 2007 to July 2009. Since September 2011, he has been teaching bassoon and chamber music at the Académie de Musique de Thuin. In parallel, he has occasionally performed on baroque bassoon, giving several concerts with professional Belgian ensembles under the direction of Paul Dombrecht, Wieland Kuijken, René Jacobs, and others.
