Guy Danel

Biography

In the class of Pierre Penassou, the renowned French quartet player, Guy discovered the cello and the string quartet. After a few years at the Opéra de Bruxelles, Guy founded the Quatuor Danel, an experience that allowed him to meet legendary musicians, including the Amadeus, Borodin, and Lasalle Quartets, who shared with him a rich and inspiring musical heritage. With the quartet, he prepared several complete cycles of works by Beethoven, Bartók, Shostakovich, and Weinberg, some of which were recorded. Collaborations with leading performers and composers have enriched this journey. In 2013, Guy Danel stepped away from the Quatuor Danel and began dividing his artistic time between teaching and exploring a more independent artistic path, often through encounters in unexpected places with musicians from different backgrounds.

With the Quatuor Isasi, Guy Danel is currently preparing a recording of the string quartet repertoire by the composer and violinist Henri Marteau for the German label CPO. He also performs with the Quatuor Malibran. Guy Danel is the founding president of two associations active in the field of chamber music, in collaboration with professional ensembles of the younger generation: Chamber Music for Europe and Concerts en Nos Villages. Projects such as Pas Si Classique, Pick Opus, Un Quatuor dans ma Classe, and BruxAmaMus represent original initiatives in both concerts and pedagogy, carried forward by the cultural actors of tomorrow.
