Frédéric d'Ursel

Biography

Frédéric d’Ursel studied violin with Édith Volckaert, and then at the Conservatoire de Bruxelles with Philippe Hirshhorn. In 1985 and 1986, he participated in the Tanglewood Festival in the United States, where he performed under the direction of Leonard Bernstein, Eiji Oue, and Leon Fleisher, and attended master classes with Joseph Silverstein and the Muir String Quartet. As an orchestral musician, he has performed under the direction of conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Christopher Hogwood, Philippe Herreweghe, Reinbert de Leeuw, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Antonio Pappano, and Emmanuel Krivine. Frédéric d’Ursel is a founding member of the ensemble Oxalys, established in 1993, with which he performs worldwide. Since 2000, he has been teaching violin at the Conservatoire de Bruxelles.
