Edith Van Dyck

Biography

Edith Van Dyck is a renowned orchestral flutist, soloist, and educator.

Since 2010, she has been the principal flutist of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

As a soloist, she has performed Nielsen’s Flute Concerto, Kaija Saariaho’s L’Aile du Songe, and Jacques Ibert’s Flute Concerto under the baton of Stanislav Kochanovsky, Osmo Vänskä, and Jonathan Bloxham, respectively. She has been invited to the Storioni Festival, the Arbanassi Summer Music Festival, and the Academy of Arts in Crete.

Her first album on the Et’Cetera label, featuring works by Prokofiev, Martinu, Roussel, Bennett, and Barber, with pianist Helene Luyten, capped off many years of recital performances. This recording was praised by critics in international music journals and received the highest rating from the Dutch music magazine Luister. In 2025, she recorded a new album with pianist Richard Shaw. Free Spirits, also released on Et’Cetera, features a repertoire for flute and piano by Bax, Karg-Elert, Liebermann, Bartók, Gubaidulina, Denisov, Firsova, and Shoot.

In addition to her career as a performer, Edith Van Dyck is a passionate educator.

She teaches at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles and founded her own Flute Studio: under this name, she organizes various short, intensive workshops, exploring specific themes with the participants.

Previously, Edith Van Dyck taught flute for about twenty years at the conservatory of the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA) in Tilburg, the Netherlands.

Edith Van Dyck was the driving force behind and founder of the Summer Course for Winds. This course offers young professional musicians a short, intensive training program focused on improving performance under pressure, including mental coaching and audition preparation. Edith Van Dyck is regularly invited to serve as a guest instructor.

At the Royal Academy of Music in London, Edith Van Dyck won the prestigious J&J Brough Flute Prize and the Chris Taylor Flute Prize. She is a prize winner of the Belgian Belfius Classics competition.
