Ayumi Nabata was born in Osaka into a family of musicians: her mother, a student of Yvonne Loriod, and her aunt, a student of Vlado Perlemuter, teach at the Kyoto and Osaka universities of the arts. At the age of 18, she chose to continue her studies in France at the CRR in Paris, before joining the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles, where she studied piano with Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden and Dominique Cornil.
She completed her studies with a post-master's degree in piano under Vitaly Samoshko at KASK in Ghent, as well as a master's degree in education at the Royal Conservatory of Mons and a post-master's degree in piano accompaniment at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel with Anne Op de Beeck. She also studied with Maria João Pires and Dina Yoffe. At the same time, she studied composition with Peter Swinnen at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles and Annelies Van Parys at the Sound Mine International Academy.
Passionate about teaching, she is currently an assistant in reading and transposition at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles. She also develops numerous educational projects: creating shows with schools in partnership with the Guérétoise national theater and the Ministry of Culture, as well as concert-meetings for young audiences.
Invited to perform recitals and chamber music, she has appeared at numerous festivals and major venues—Izumi Hall Osaka, Kawai Hall Osaka, NHK Hall, RNCM Manchester, Bozar Brussels, Parco della Musica Rome, Teatro Verdi Florence, Robert Schumann Haus—and has been broadcast on NHK, France Musique, RAI, and RTBF.
Her work as a composer has been recognized by various festivals such as the Chigiana in Siena, Ars Musica, and the Chopin Association of Japan. Her works have been performed by several ensembles, including the Ensemble l'Itinéraire, and her orchestral work Souvenir de l'avenir was premiered in 2025 by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
Convinced that culture should be accessible to all, she founded the Mas Musici international chamber music festival in Creuse in 2016 with her partners, renowned for its demanding program and regional commitment.
Winner of several international competitions in France, Japan, Korea, Italy, and Belgium, Ayumi Nabata now pursues a career combining creation, performance, and teaching.
