Stephan Van Dyck

Biography


After a Masters degree (singing) at the Royal Music Conservatory Brussels and a degree in Musicology at the University of Brussels, he continued his studies at the Studio Versailles Opéra with René Jacobs and Rachel Yakar. He obtained a degree (diploma) at the National Superior Music Conservatory Paris in the class of William Christie.

He has worked with the following ensembles:
La Chapelle Royale (Ph.Herreweghe), Organum (M.Pérès), Huelgas (P.van Nevel), Janequin (D.Visse), Binchois (D.Vellard)...

He has sung as a soloist for C.Rousset (Les Talens Lyriques), W.Christie (Les Arts Florissants), Ph.Pierlot ( Ricercar Consort), T.Koopman (Orchestre Baroque d’Amsterdam), S.Kuijken (La petite Bande), M.Minkowski (Les musiciens du Louvre), H.Niquet (Le Concert Spirituel), M.Gester (Le Parlement de Musique), J.Savall (Le Concert des Nations), S.Stubbs (Tragicomedia), G.Garrido (Elyma), Concerto Palatino (B.Dickey,C.Toets) and Fenice (J.Tubéry), Capriccio Stravagante (Skip Sempé)...

As a performer he is regularly invited to numerous international Festivals. He has sung in Prague, St.Petersbourg, Oslo, New York, Jerusalem, Praetoria, Tokyo, Montreal, Warsaw...
He has interpreted the role of Don Quichotte in “Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse” (of Boismortier) at l’Opéra Comique de Paris, the role of Intelletto in “Rappresentatione di Anima et di Corpo” (of Cavalieri) at Théâtre de la Monnaie in Bruxelles, Eumete in “Il ritorno di Ulisse” (of  Monteverdi) in Brussels, Amsterdam and Vienne… the role of Varo in “Arminio” (of Haendel), Azor in “Zémire et Azor” (of Gretry), Carlos and Tacmas in ‘’Indes Galantes ‘’( of Rameau)…

He has participated in 85 recordings of music from the Middle Ages to the contemporary period (Harmonia mundi, Sony, Naxos, Ricercar...).
Such as : ‘Airs de Cour’, Joseph Chabanceau de la Barre with Stephen Stubbs (Ricercar); ‘Vespro della beata Vergine’, Claudio Monteverdi with Masaaki Suzuki (Bis); ‘Il Canzionere’ with Maria Christina Kiehr and ensemble ‘La Fenice’ (Ricercar); ‘Canzonettas’, Joseph Haydn (Arsis); ‘Nuove Musiche’, Giulio Caccini with Christina Pluhar (Musica Ficta) and ‘Echo de Paris’ with ensemble ‘Private Musicke’ (Accent)…

He is a teacher, singing, in Belgium at the Nivelles Music School; instructor (lecturer), for singing at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles.

He has also given Masterclasses at the Conservatories of Toulouse, Oslo, Warsaw, Den Haag and at "The Centre of Baroque Music in Versailles"...
