Biography


Ruben Enmanuel Hernandez Gonzalez was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 16 1984. He began his musical training there at the "Benny Moré School of Arts" at the age of 10.
When he was 16, he began to perform with several amateur bands. A year later, he signed his first contract with a traditional Cuban music septet called "Union". This group brought him a lot of experience and helped him in his musical development around the different genres and styles of Cuban popular music.
Later, Ruben joined the "Charanga Cienfueguera orchestra", but also "Son del Sur", "Septeto Bella Costa", and "Grupo Baison".
In 2007, he moved to Belgium where he started performing with several Cuban music groups such as "Rey Cabrera y sus Amigos", "Grupo Contrabando", "Tomi y su Timbalight", "Tumbao cubano",...
In 2012, he was a student at the jazz Department of the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles, where he graduated with a Master's degree in Jazz in 2017. During this time, he had the opportunity to learn from musicians such as Michel Paré, Arnould Massart, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, Fabrice Alleman, Phil Abraham, etc.
Ruben currently collaborates with several bands such as "Dat Mess", "Manou Gallo", "Royal Band of the Belgian Navy", "Man on Fire & the Soul Soldiers", "Mambisimo Big Band", "Bravo Big Band".
At the same time, he is working on his own project, "RHG Project", which is a band that blends Afro-Cuban music and jazz, where he acts as arranger-composer and trumpet player.
