Jean-Marc Fessard

Biography

Jean-Marc Fessard, gratuated from "Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique" in Paris, the Paris University (Musicology), the Gdańsk Music Academy (PhD), was prizewinner of the Concours d’Interpretation Jacques Lancelot (1st prize), the Paris International Competition (3rd prize), Illzach (1st prize) and Gdańsk (1st and Special prize of the Hamburg Brahms Society).
He leads an international career both in chamber music and as a soloist accompanied by prestigious ensembles (National orchestras of Poznań, Szczecin, Katowice, Baku, Gdańsk, Polish National Radio Orchestra, Polish chamber Orchestra, Chamber orchestra of the Czech Philharmonic, Zagreb Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de chambre de Wallonie, Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine, Elysee, Ebene, and Wieniawski Quartets).
Involved in creating contemporary music, dedicatee of many works, and member of the Ensemble Sillages, Jean-Marc Fessard is a frequent contributor to Polish radio and television, the BBC and Radio France. In April 2011 he had performed the Tansman clarinet concerto at the Warszaw Polish Radio Studio I. He had recorded "D’un silence…” the clarinet concerto by Piotr Moss with the National Polish Radio Orchestra.
Jean-Marc Fessard has recorded some 30 CD’s for labels as Universal, Dux, Naxos, Ameson, Clarinet Classics, Signature Radio-France, Quantum, Triton, which regularly receive excellent reviews in the press. His recording dedicated to the French composer Allain Gaussin received the prestigious award "Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros".
Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen described his version of the Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps by Olivier Messiaen as "Simply admirable". He has recorded for Naxos Alexander Tansman’s Concerto and Concertino for clarinet.
Jean-Marc Fessard is professor at the Brussels Royal Conservatory, and has been invited to give masterclasses in the Czech republic (Prague Music Academy, Ostrava University), Poland (Gdańsk, Poznań, Lódz, Katowice, Warsaw), the UK (Royal College of Music, London), China (Beijing University, Beijing National Conservatory), Mexico (Mexico National Conservatory or USA (Nothern Illinois University).
Jean-Marc Fessard is the author of "The Evolution of the Clarinet" a work on the history of the clarinet, the clarinet method "Ecoute ! Je joue" both published by Billaudot Paris. He is director of publications for Billaudot-Paris.
