Cavalieri: La Rappresentatione di Anima e di Corpo
March 6 2026 19:00
Emilio de’ Cavalieri was a leading figure in Florence at the end of the 15th century and played a decisive role in the birth of music for solo voice and basso continuo. However, it was in Rome in 1600 that his Rappresentatione di Anima e di Corpo, an allegorical sacred drama considered to be the first “oratorio” in history, was performed. The singing section and the early music department are joining forces to explore the work, guided by a search for rhetorical expressiveness and the integration of all the instrumental forces into the basso continuo.
