2026 Colloquium : The Oratorio of the 17th and 18th Centuries, Instrumentation and Basso Continuo
October 19 2026 00:00 > October 22 2026 00:00
This symposium forms the second part of an in-depth exploration of basso continuo. It aims to examine its development through the genre of the oratorio, building on the 2025 Symposium entitled ‘Basso Continuo: Foundations, Practice and Pedagogy’. Mornings will be devoted to lectures and academic presentations, whilst afternoons will be dedicated to group work organised across year groups. All students will be divided into groups tasked with presenting excerpts from oratorios, approached from both a contextual and a musical perspective. This work will be supervised jointly by lecturers from the Department and external contributors.
