Join us for an exploration into the legacy of Beethoven and approaches to decolonisation. In thinking about the canon of Great Composers within Western European Classical Music, we invite you to consider the systems and contexts which produce 'Great Composers' and how, using a decolonial lens, we can gain insight into ways in to understand Beethoven in our current socio-political context.

Prof Nate Holder BA (Hons), MMus is a musician, author, speaker and music education consultant. He advocates for decolonizing music education and has been speaking, writing and consulting on the subject internationally for the past few years. Nate brings his passion and skill in public speaking to leading CPD training and workshops for schools, hubs and universities; helping to address bias and underrepresentation in music classrooms, departments, hubs and boards internationally. He has consulted and worked with the BBC, Hal Leonard Europe and Collins Music. Nate continues to perform, tour and record with artists such as KOKOROKO, Ghetts, Emeli Sandé and Stormzy across Europe. After the murder of George Floyd sparked worldwide protests, he began speaking at universities and music education hubs and consulting for music industry leaders. He serves on the board for F-flat books and Music Teacher Magazine and he is a member of the Advisory Group to the Africa APPG’s Inquiry into Africa in the UK Curricula.
