Handel: La Resurrezione – Concert by the Early Music Orchestra
March 19 2027 19:00
Georg Friedrich Handel was a young prodigy on the cusp of stardom when he spent time in Italy in the early 18th century. It was in Rome, in 1708, that his *Resurrezione* was premiered – a flamboyant early oratorio composed with all the theatricality of opera, a genre then subject to a papal ban. The oratorio forms the central theme of the year within the early music department, which is joining forces with the vocal section to explore the vocal virtuosity, contrasting ‘affetti’ and the dazzling richness of instrumental colours that the work contains.
