NEW | Academic Year 2026–2027 | Early Music

The Early Music Department at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles is launching a new Classical-Romantic Master’s programme on period instruments.

From the start of the 2026–2027 academic year, students will be able to choose between two specialisations:

  • Baroque (1580–1750)
  • Classical–Romantic (1750–1850)

This new programme is based on the principles of Culturally Informed Performance Practices (CIPP) and offers an immersion in the performance practices of the Classical and Romantic periods through historical instruments, treatises, period sources and a rigorous artistic approach.

The programme includes:

  • instrumental classes on period instruments;
  • chamber music;
  • orchestral rehearsal sessions;
  • the practice of basso continuo;
  • vocal practice;
  • specialised theoretical tuition.

Designed as a genuine space for research, creativity and specialisation, this Master’s programme guides students in exploring the repertoires from 1750 to 1850 using a historically informed approach.

This curricular reform marks a new stage in the development of the Department of Early Music, which is reaffirming its ambition to become one of Europe’s leading centres for historically informed performance, from the Baroque to the Romantic period.

Admissions for the 2026–2027 academic year are now open.
