The Symphony of Smiles — what a lovely title, isn’t it? Did you know that Gustav Holst’s *Jupiter* is so brimming with rhythm and energy that, amongst musicians, this piece is sometimes affectionately nicknamed a ‘smile in notes’? Alongside this sparkling work, we’ve brought together in this concert programme some of our favourite masterpieces – those that spontaneously bring a smile to our faces, ranging from the theatricality of Jacques Ibert to the mischievous little pieces by Malcolm Arnold. Our satisfied smile as we present Szervánszky’s First Quintet — less well-known, but oh so magnificent — is accompanied by the smile, as mellow as wine, evoked by Samuel Barber’s *Summer Music*. Say Cheese!
