Romanticism and modernity

February 3 2026 19:00

The young Luxembourgish cellist Matis Grisó, winner of numerous national and international competitions and a student at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles  since 2020, is already establishing himself as one of the most promising talents of his generation. During the 2024-2025 season, he made his debut as a soloist with several renowned orchestras, including the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra and the Musiq3 Festival Orchestra. Last December, he also had the honour of performing the national anthem alongside his brother, a violinist, during the speech by HRH Grand Duke Guillaume.
He will perform here with the Aeterna Quartet, winner of the Prix Espoir at the Génération Classique competition at the Festivals de Wallonie and finalist in the Supernova competition.
Together, they will offer a rich and contrasting programme, culminating in Schubert's Quintet for Two Cellos, an absolute masterpiece of the chamber music repertoire, after Webern's Langsamer Satz, in which the flame of passionate love seems to be drawn in every bar, and Ligeti's Sonata for Solo Cello, a two-movement work that defies the limits of virtuosity.
A musical journey between profound romanticism, the lyricism of nascent modernity and the audacity of the 20th century.
