Masterclass with So-Ock Kim

So-Ock Kim is an international violin soloist and chamber musician. She has made numerous recordings.
At the age of 15, she became the youngest winner in the history of the prestigious Shell/LSO Competition, where she performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Hall. At the age of 19, So-Ock was selected by the Young Concert Artists Trust as a soloist and member of the Emperor Piano Trio.
So-Ock has performed all over the world to critical acclaim, notably at Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall and the Barbican Hall in London. She has toured throughout Asia, Europe and the United States, performing concertos and giving recitals at numerous international festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein, Beethoven, Ravinia, Mecklenburg, BBC Proms, Radio France, Herrenchimsee, Seoul Spring, Hong Kong Chamber, Casals and Aldeburgh festivals.
Her performances have been broadcast on radio and television worldwide, notably by the BBC, ABC, Radio France, RAI, KBS, Polish Radio and Classic FM.

So-Ock Kim has performed with numerous prestigious orchestras, including the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Sofia Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de Montpellier, the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Torino Philharmonic, the Seoul Philharmonic, the Mexico State Orchestra and the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a soloist, she has worked with conductors such as Kent Nagano, Edward Gardner, Alain Altinoglu and Krzysztof Penderecki, with the Polish Radio Orchestra, as well as with Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Philharmonia Orchestra. She has also collaborated with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vassily Petrenko, as well as with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera North, City of London Sinfonia, London Mozart Players, Suwon Philharmonic, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Westdeutsche Sinfonia and English Chamber Orchestra.
So-Ock Kim has a particular interest in performing contemporary works and has given world premieres of several pieces, some of which have been recorded for Universal (France and Korea) and Naxos.
She is also an active chamber musician and a violin teacher at the Royal Academy of Music, as well as artistic coordinator of the Beare’s International Violin Society.
