Gaston Knosp: The vocal soul of a Belgian musician found

May 8 2026 12:30

Composer, poet, ethnomusicologist and great traveler, Gaston Knosp (1874-1942) traveled the world guided by a musical curiosity without limits. Pupil of Massenet, friend and biographer of Puccini, fine connoisseur of the musics of Japan as much as those of Congo, he remains a figure unknown and unclassifiable of the Belgian musical history.

This concert is the result of Master 2 internship by Francesco Nocco. For his research, he drew on the extensive Fonds Gaston Knosp held at the Library of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, as well as a series of documents preserved in the Music Division of KBR, notably acquired through a donation from Léo Houziaux. Francesco Nocco invites you to discover the unexpected treasures of this musician through his vocal music.
