Baroque music consists of discourse and structure. Musicians therefore accompany or narrate. In the concertante style, structure becomes more powerful than discourse. This requires the soloist to integrate intimately into the architectural logic of the structures, which is the very essence of Baroque aesthetics. J.S. Bach's music offers musicians particularly delightful puzzles that are as exciting to play as they are pleasant to listen to.
