Although all too often overlooked, music for wind bands remains one of the most important elements of the Belgian cultural landscape.
It features some of Europe’s leading wind band composers (Jan van der Roost, Bert Appermont, André Waignien and François Glorieux), as well as world-renowned military bands such as the Royal Guides Band and the Royal Air Force Band.
It is against this rich historical backdrop that the guest conductor for this year’s wind band session, Matty Cilissen, has put together his programme.
Demonstrating the ensemble’s versatility, he will take you on a journey through the great originals of the repertoire (Jan van der Roost’s *Sinfonietta*), via the finest transcriptions for wind band (*Till Eulenspiegel*), whilst also introducing you to more contemporary pieces (*Destino iTango*).
