Born into a family of musicians, the Franco-American cellist Benjamin Grynszpan began playing the cello at the age of seven. After studying with Valérie Aimard, Cyrille Lacrouts and Marie-Thérèse Grisenti, he joined the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles in Marie Hallynck’s class, where he obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with First Class Honours.
In April 2025, Benjamin was accepted into the MM Academy at La Monnaie for the 2025–2026 season.
He took part in the production of Berlioz’s *Benvenuto Cellini* at the Théâtre de la Monnaie, conducted by Alain Altinoglu, and performed with the Belgian National Orchestra, conducted by Roderick Cox, at Bozar.
In November 2025, he was a finalist in the Belgium Cello Society Orchestra Workshop.
In July 2026, Benjamin was awarded first prize at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles Laureates’ Competition.
As cellist with the Funambule Quartet, he recorded two albums of original music (Pictures of the Past, 2019, and Rhapsody of Remembrance, 2025, PennyBankTunes).
From the start of the 2026 academic year, Benjamin is pursuing a Specialised Master’s degree at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles focusing on the repertoire of 20th-century Russian music, particularly sonatas for cello and piano.
Benjamin plays a 1927 Luc Gallicane cello.
