Beethoven Festival - Beethoven’s Septet
March 10 2027 19:00
A work of considerable scope, Beethoven’s Septet, Op. 20, composed in 1799, brings together the clarinet, bassoon, horn and a string quartet in which the double bass replaces the cello. Although Beethoven was highly critical of this piece, which he described as having been composed ‘with much imagination and little art’, it remains – as a contemporary of the First Symphony – a masterpiece of the German master’s classical style.
